Despite consistently achieving impressive milestones, this game is still criticized for lacking the most important element.
Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero was officially released on Steam on October 10, and it didn't take long for the game to set its own records.
This was actually predicted earlier, as during its early access phase, the game attracted a massive number of players willing to pay to experience it ahead of time.
Currently, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero has around 120,000 concurrent players.
So compared to the peaks of other famous blockbusters like Elden Ring (950,000), Palworld (2.1 million), or the most recent Black Myth: Wukong (2.4 million), the 120,000 players of Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero seems modest. However, when considering only its fighting genre, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero has made history.
As a game that caters to a niche audience and typically only garners attention from fans, the 120,000 concurrent players of Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is nearly double the all-time high of Street Fighter 6 (70,000 players). Furthermore, it far surpasses other games like Mortal Kombat 11 or Tekken 7.
Despite achieving such impressive results, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is still facing some criticism from its core fans.
Specifically, many players are complaining that this Dragon Ball-themed game has overlooked the most important element: the action of searching for and collecting Dragon Balls. In the original version, this was a crucial and indispensable action. In Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, Dragon Balls still appear, but instead of searching and collecting them, players only need to defeat certain opponents to find them. For many true fans, the absence of the Dragon Ball feature in a Dragon Ball game feels a bit off. This detail has also been a major point of dissatisfaction for many players.
Nonetheless, a few minor complaints can't dampen the strong appeal of Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero. It's likely that 120,000 concurrent players won't be the final peak this blockbuster can reach, especially as fans have just discovered a DLC for the game that is set to launch soon.
